I found fandom late. I was in my 40s, peri-menopausal and didn't realize it and terribly unhappy. We got the internet at our house and I went hunting for --- connection and fund fandom. Made some nice friends, though my homelife was still strange. Got into the LOTR fandom and met a whole new and better set of friends. I met one person, a German girl twenty years younger than me in an online RPG. we got to chatting and became friends and in 2005, my 15 year old daughter was killed in a car crash. MY new friend called, sent things, cards and finally asked if she could visit. Hubby and I said yes. She and some other wonderful internet friends (Karen and Mel) came over Thanksgiving. We became BFFs and we've seen each other twice a year ever since except during the pandemic. We have visited her in Germany and in Spain this last October. So yeah, fandom might have saved my life.

I can see how both those things made you cry - and likely still do.

I just noticed that the orchestral theme under Gandalf's words is the melody to "Into the West." But, of course, it would be.

Thank you for sharing.

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. hugs if you want them. I can't even imagine how much that must have hurt.
